The 2019 LOBA finalists Nanna Heitmann and Rafael Heygster were selected to participate in the World Press Photo Young Talent Program.

The 6x6 Global Talent Program was launched in August 2017. The initiative is divided into two-year cycles, during which the focus is placed on six photographers from a specific global region. The second cycle comes to an end in 2020.
The selection process starts with an international committee whose members nominate visual storytellers they feel deserve greater recognition for their work. From this pool of nominees, a jury then chooses six photographers for the upcoming cycle.

Carol Körting, picture editor at Leica Fotografie International, nominated Nanna Heitmann. “Hiding from Baba Yaga is a magical journey,” she explains. “The expansive quality and elegiac narrative of her images make Nanna’s work a must-see.”

Rafael Heygster, who was shortlisted for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2019, is also among the talents chosen for the second cycle, along with Máté Bartha (Hungary), Carolina Rapezzi (Italy), Valentina Sinis (Italy) and Mathias Svold (Denmark).
