Fleeting Moments, Made Eternal

January 8, 2021

Fotostiftung Schweiz in Winterthur presents a comprehensive exhibition by Pia Zanetti, open from January 23 to May 24, 2021.
Pia Zanetti (b. 1943 in Basel) is renowned for her insightful and dedicated reportages. Her work has always been centred around ordinary people going about everyday pursuits – be it at work, play, out in the street or at a football stadium. With an approach that was both unobtrusive and empathetic, critical and precise, she captured the major and minor dramas of everyday life.

To create this exhibition, Zanetti reviewed her archive and compiled a selection of images that culminate in an entirely new story. In the same way Zanetti could expand a single topic into a visual narrative, her life’s work has grown into a representative portrait of an era. Images that originated in a photojournalistic context have stood the test of time, and turned from documentary records to stand-alone works of art.

The extensive overview at Fotostiftung Winterthur highlights the consistent nature of Zanetti’s approach – borne out of a steadfast trust in her own visual language. Her subjective gaze and commitment to her inner voice are at the core of her entire oeuvre.
Curated by Teresa Gruber and Peter Pfrunder, the exhibition will be on display at the Swiss venue from January 23 to May 24, 2021. The showcase is accompanied by the publication ‘Pia Zanetti, Photographer’, released by Scheidegger & Spiess AG, Zurich, and Codax Publisher, Feldmeilen/Zurich.
