Good Morning, World!

Share:

In the 1930s, Ernst A. Heiniger (1909–1993) was among the avant-garde of the New Vision movement in Swiss photography. Fotostiftung Schweiz dedicates an exhibition to the work of the late photographer, film-maker and producer: ‘Good Morning, World!’ is on display in Winterthur from June 5 to October 10, 2021.

Heiniger was a self-taught photographer who originally trained as a retoucher. He was one of the first photographers to be accepted into the Swiss ‘Werkbund’ - an association of artists, architects, designers and industrialists, established in 1913. In the 1950s, he travelled the world as a documentary film-maker for Walt Disney – with two of his short-films winning an Oscar.

Curated by Teresa Gruber and Katharina Rippstein, the showcase in Winterthur features documentary and nature photographs, photo books, posters, films and behind-the-scenes images. Heiniger’s 360-degree film ‘Magic of the Rails’ - presented by the Swiss National Railways at the Expo 64 in Lausanne - will also be re-staged as a surround-projection.
