The exhibition of pictures by Alex Webb from 5 September to 3 November 2019 at the Leica Gallery Wetzlar presents a personal selection from his multi-faceted and considerable life’s work. The collection “The Suffering of Light”, that has been published as a book in 2011, offers an exemplary overview of nearly three decades of his colour photography.
Besides India, Greece, Grenada and Haiti, the exhibition is primarily made up of images captured in Cuba and Mexico, where he travelled on numerous occasions, most frequently accompanied by his photographer wife, Rebecca Norris Webb. Webb observed people and their daily lives on the streets; he followed changes in society and in social relationships, but the motifs have much more than just a documentary character.
Recognized as a pioneer of American colour photography, Webb has since the 1970s consistently created photographs characterized by intense colour and light.
The opening will take place on September 4, 2019 at 7 pm.
More information can be found on his website.
