WestLicht Photography Auction

November 19, 2014

The 11th WestLicht Photography Auction takes place in Vienna this Friday, 21 November.
On 29 September 1974, the Sunday Times published a title story about Mick and Bianca Jagger. Mick Jagger only agreed to this story because the newspaper agreed to fulfil his great wish to be photographed by Leni Riefenstahl. The controversial director and photographer agreed, and flew to London for what was to be her last artistic commission.

This will be the first time photographs from this legendary session will be for sale. Each of the seven colour photographs offered in the auction is signed by Riefenstahl.

The images were shot with a Leica, and printed on Cibachrome paper in the 1980s. Peter Reichelt, Riefenstahl’s former long-time agent and consultant, created the prints in Munich under Riefenstahl’s supervision. Since the 1990s, the series has been presented in more than 30 museums all over the world.

Further auction highlights include works by famous artists such as Diane Arbus, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Walker Evans, Robert Capa, René Burri, to name but a few.

The complete auction catalogue can be viewed online at WestLicht.
