Western society is experiencing multiple phenomena of transformation. Digital communication is changing our working and personal lives; protest movements are using online social networks to create worldwide connections and high-profile campaigns. A more conscious approach to people and nature, democratic movements and a call for a more open society – as exemplified by the recent protests in Belarus and the movement to stop climate change – illustrate a new sense of active engagement. The intense debates surrounding the phasing out of coal, the structural changes this would entail for the affected regions, as well as future developments in urban and rural areas, highlight the lines of conflict associated with these transitions.
The group exhibition at the Museum for Photography in Braunschweig features visual approaches by eight young artists whose multi-media works reflect the changes and challenges of our time. With images by Julia Autz, Daniel Chatard, Bob Jones, Georg Kußmann, Igor Samolet, Kristina Savutsina, Jakob Schnetz, and Yorgos Yatromanolakis
