Vivian Maier Photo Award

January 29, 2016

Female photographers take note! The 2016 Vivian Maier Photo Award has been announced. Pictures dealing with the theme of 'Powerful Moments' can still be submitted up until February 7, 2016.
The competition is launched by the photo magazine, camerawoman, and is directed mainly at female photographers. The award looks for images capturing powerful and atmospheric moments of human interaction, that are in line with the tradition of the award's namesake. There are cameras and photo equipment to be won. In addition, the best photographs will be exhibited at this year's photokina in Cologne, and will be published in the spring edition of camerawoman.

Vivian Maier (1926–2009) is considered one of the greats of American street photography, who first achieved fame following her death. Since an auction held in 2007, over 150,000, to date unpublished, black and white pictures by the New York nanny have come to light so far. Maier's photos document urban daily life in the metropolis, and present an intimate portrait of the customs of society during the second half of the twentieth century.

Information on the competition and how to submit can be found at: Vivian Maier.
