Picturesque Vevey

The Images festival, which takes place every two years in Vevey, is Switzerland’s biggest photo festival and one of the largest events of its kind worldwide. This year’s edition, featuring 75 projects by artists from 15 countries, opened on 10 September. For three weeks, photography enthusiasts are able to visit the free festival to enjoy a wide range of open-air and gallery exhibitions. The topic of this year’s event is Immersion.

The majority of installations have been conceptualised specifically for this purpose, with the aim of linking each project to a suitable location. The presentations are only on display for the duration of the festival. This gives visitors an opportunity to re-discover existing works in unique and unusual new contexts, whilst also witnessing the world premiere of many others.

Once again, the photo festival transcends the medium’s boundaries, as exclusive installations in unexpected locations transform Vevey into a ‘city of images’: photographs are displayed on the monumental facades of buildings, on billboards, in parks and gardens, in fountains and even above the depths of Lake Geneva.
