Pictures of North Korea

March 5, 2017

Photographs by Nathalie Daoust, Reinhard Krause and Julia Leeb will be showing at the Stadthaus Ulm from 5 March to 18 June 2017 in the exhibition ‘Pictures of North Korea’.
On 5 March 2017, visitors are invited to the opening reception of Pictures of North Korea at the Stadthaus Ulm. The event starts at 11.00 and includes a talk by exhibiting photographers Nathalie Daoust, Reinhard Krause and Julia Leeb, whose work will continue to be on display until 18 June 2017.

North Korea is hermetically sealing itself off, making it the world’s currently most inaccessible country. If photojournalists do manage to gain access, their work is meticulously supervised and manipulated. So while there is a ready availability of supposedly secret images, these usually depict the same settings.

Featuring the works of three exceptional photographers, Pictures of North Korea expands the horizons of our Western awareness and offers insights into an alien world. In collaboration with Ulm’s art house cinemas, the exhibition will be complemented by screenings of numerous subject-related films at the city’s Mephisto cinema.
