From 9. October to 13. November 2015 the FineArt Gallery in Traismauer (Austria) presents large-format images of the Arctic, created by Icelandic photographer Ragnar Axelsson.
Ragnar Axelsson, also known as RAX, is one of the most celebrated documentary photographers of our time, whose work has been honoured with a multitude of international awards.
In early 2015, he was the first photographer to work with the new M Monochrom (Typ 246), creating the project Around Iceland in 80 hours: Leica Blog.
Along with landscape photographs, the exhibition ‘Faces of the North’ predominantly includes portrait shots of hunters in Greenland and Canada. In their faces, the photographer captures a striking reflection of the unspeakably harsh conditions to which they have adapted. His photographs convey the stories of people living in the hostile environment of the Arctic, tell of their everyday lives and offer an insight into their continuous battle with nature.
