Light Sensitive

From 15 April 2018, the Schauwerk exhibition space in Sindelfingen, Germany, presents a showcase of contemporary photography from the Schaufler Collection. Following on from the exhibition Lichtempfindlich 1 of 2011, this is the second time a showcase compiled from this extensive photography collection is presented in the impressive exhibition space of the former high-bay warehouse.

Lichtempfindlich 2 comprises some of the most significant exhibits from the previous edition, along with numerous works that have not been shown before – offering a comprehensive overview of this extraordinary collection. The primary focus of collectors Peter Schaufler and Christiane Schaufler-Münch is not so much on the medium and its history, but rather the allure of specific scenes and compositions, and their visual interpretations.

While the selection includes references to classic genres of photography – such as nude, portrait, landscape or architectural photography – these tend to be allusions, or form a part of the conceptual process. Overall, most of the represented artists move outside the framework of any formal approach.
