When the American poet and activist Audre Lorde (1934–1992) was battling both breast cancer and the medical practices used for its treatment, she wrote about how she fought against despair – namely by “knowing that this work did not begin with my birth, nor will it end with my death.”
The exhibition at the Museum for Photography takes Lorde’s words as ‘poethical’ inspiration for thinking of regeneration as a process of renewal – whereby many of the displayed works address the close relationship between destruction and creation. The participating artists include Domenik Krischke, Elina Saalfeld, Hannah Lansburgh, Torben Jost and Victoria Martínez, among others.
