The C|O Berlin gallery invites visitors to the launch of a comprehensive photo book showcasing the promotional campaigns of the Berliner Schaubühne theatre. The event includes talks by photographers Paolo Pellegrin and Ute & Werner Mahler, actress Eva Meckbach as well as the theatre’s artistic director, Thomas Ostermeier. The evening will be moderated by Christoph Amend, chief editor of ZEIT magazine.
Over the past four years, six internationally acclaimed photographers have captured the Schaubühne theatre’s ensemble of actors. Juergen Teller, who started out in early 2013, was followed first by Ute und Werner Mahler, then Pari Dukovic, Brigitte Lacombe and Paolo Pellegrin.
One by one, the theatre’s striking posters shaped the urban landscape of Berlin almost like an open-air exhibition. Now the photographs have, for the first time, been collated into one cohesive volume. The result is a diverse collection of remarkable portraits, surprising snapshots, strictly formal black-and-white photographs, and purist close-ups.
