November 24, 2018

The exhibition Camera Austria International. Laboratory for Photography and Theory will be open at the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg, Austria, from 24 November 2018 to 3 March 2019.
Salzburg’s Museum der Moderne presents the exhibition Camera Austria International. Laboratory for Photography and Theory. The showcase is open from 24 November 2018 to 3 March 2019.

For more than forty years, the Graz-based organisation ‘Camera Austria’ has been fulfilling a multitude of roles – serving as an exhibition venue, discussion platform, publishing house, archive, library and organiser of numerous workshops and symposia. The Museum der Moderne in Salzburg now presents a showcase illustrating the association’s profound influence on Austria’s photography scene, as well as the networks and relationships that have arisen as a result of Camera Austria’s work.

The exhibition is not intended as a retrospective, but as an opportunity to reconsider aspects of Camera Austria’s history from a contemporary perspective. Divided into eight sections (Topography & Landscape, Image & Identity, Living Environment & Representation, Composition & Deconstruction, Picture & Politics, Research & Archive, Visual Politics & Science, and Privacy & Public Image), the showcase enables the works of 37 artists from 11 countries to enter into a visual dialogue. Audio and video recordings of symposia organised by Camera Austria offer further insight into the organisation’s achievements, both within Austria and on an international basis.
