Otmar Thormann

November 23, 2014

The Austrian photographer's exhibition 'Ursprung' (Origins) is showing at the Fotohof Gallery in Salzburg until 17 January 2015.
Salzburg's Fotohof Gallery presents the exhibition Origins by Otmar Thormanns (*1944). A book of the same title, published as a Fotohof Edition, is also available. There are some variations between the book and the exhibition, the latter of which has been re-compiled by the photographer. The featured photographs span the entire time period of Thormann's photographic oeuvre from the early 1960s to the late 1990s.

The exhibition traces the photographer's path from somber, post-war Street photographs of Graz and Vienna to the surrealism-influenced still lifes he created in his Stockholm studio in the 1970s. In his autobiographical quest for the origins of his fascination with photography, Thormann has delved deep into the strata of his work as well as his own persona, combining his own classic photographs and his father's early family photos into an evocative visual experience.
