Japanese Photography in Austria

April 23, 2018

A major showcase of Japanese photography from the 1960s and 1970s is displayed at Salzburg’s Museum der Moderne from 21 April to 8 July 2018.
The Museum der Moderne in Salzburg, Austria, currently presents the exhibition I-Photo – a comprehensive selection of Japanese photography from the post-war era, taken from the museum’s own holdings. The exhibition, which continues until 8 July, will be followed by a second presentation, titled City and Country.

The broad spectrum of exhibits includes images by Masahisa Fukase, one of the pioneers of post-war photography, as well as personal works by Nobuyoshi Araki, who counts among Japan’s most famous – and perhaps most controversial – photographers to date.
