In collaboration with the Stiftung West-Östliche Begegnungen (Foundation for East West Encounters), Berlin’s Buchkunst Gallery presents images from the evocative, poetic series ‘The Road Beyond’ by Ukrainian photographer Ruslan Hrushchak. The exhibition continues until June 18, 2022.
Ruslan Hrushchak was born in Ukraine, but has lived in Germany for the past twenty years. The images featured in ‘The Road Beyond’ take viewers on a journey to Hrushchak’s home country: a few years ago, he followed an inner impulse to start photographing his family, relatives and friends in western Ukraine and the Carpathian Mountains. He continued to trace their paths along a branching web of roots and memories that extends across the entire country: a journey in search of happiness. The stories and biographies captured in these images convey life in a country – and in a version of Europe – we are familiar with, but which no longer exists.
