Ralph Gibson Museum in Korea

January 25, 2023

The Gibson | Goeun Museum of Photography in Busan, Korea, is the world’s first institution dedicated entirely to the master photographer’s life and work.
The exhibition ‘The Black Trilogy’, which has been on display at the Goeun Museum of Photography in Busan since October 2022, marks the start of an ambitious new venture: the Gibson | Goeun Museum of Photography – the first institution in the world dedicated exclusively to the American Leica photographer’s oeuvre.

The holdings of the Gibson | Goeun Museum of Photography encompass around 1000 photographs, along with letters, books, musical instruments, as well as Leica cameras and lenses. “Ralph Gibson’s first exhibition at the Goeun Museum of Photography, which drew considerable attention in Korea, has further strengthened the connection between the Goeun Foundation and the master photographer,” says Hyungsoo Kim, Chairman of the Goeun Foundation.

Gibson (b. 1939 in Los Angeles, California) states: “The Gibson | Goeun-Museum provides me with an opportunity to function as a bridge between Western and Eastern photographic vision. We come full circle from the point of departure with the opening of this cultural institution, celebrating the way we see and interpret the language of light.”

The inaugural exhibition, featuring some 120 black-and-white works, continues until March 31, 2023.
