The exhibition Jaromír Funke – Photographer of the Avant-Garde opens today at the Leica Gallery in Prague. The vernissage begins at 19:00, and the exhibition remains on display up until January 29, 2017.

In 2016 Jaromír Funke would have been 120 years old. To acknowledge this jubilee year, the Leica Gallery in Prague is dedicating this exhibition to the Czech photographer and author (1896–1945). The homage focusses on his main work, the avant-garde photo studies done in the style of functionalism and the New Objectivity.

Funke’s work is among the most radical examples of abstraction in photography, as well as being among the first surreal works of Czech photography. The exhibition was curated by the photographer and photo historian Vladimír Birgus and by Funke’s daughter, Miloslava Rupešová.
