Cologne’s Photoszene Festival – now known as Photoszene United – kicks off on May 21, 2021
On May 21 and 22, audiences are able to join the online symposium ‘Artist Meets Archive - Theory and Practice of the Archive’, which was conceived in connection with the festival’s residency programme and exhibition series of the same title.
Over the course of two days, the live-streamed event will explore a range of artistic and theoretic approaches to the structure, function and aesthetics of the photographic archive.
The symposium is organised in collaboration with the German Society for Photography (DGPh), the History & Archive department of Hildesheim University, and the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum. It is supported by the Federal Cultural Foundation’s Dive In programme for digital interactions, and funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) in the context of its NEUSTART KULTUR programme.
On May 28, 2021, the question ‘Does Climate Change Need New Images?’ will be addressed in artist talks and a panel discussion inside a railroad arch in Cologne’s Hüttenstraße. The event will also be live-streamed via www.dringeblieben.de.
From May 21 onwards, the NEXT! Festival opens with a range of workshops, talks and events aimed at artistically minded kids and teens.
