The showcase ‘Light from Within’ with works by Todd Hido will be on view at the Filles du Calvaire Gallery in Paris until September 22, 2019.
The showcase comprises excerpts from the American photographer’s series ‘Homes at Night’ and ‘Bright Black World’, along with a representative selection of the artist’s portrait work.
With the release of his series ‘House Hunting’ in 2001, Todd Hido became the darling of the US art scene. His core theme is the eery melancholy of North American suburbia, which he conveys in atmospheric night-time images that are entirely devoid of people. It is left to viewer to imagine what may be happening behind the facades of these generic homes. Hido’s images – whether they are landscape or portrait shots – are imbued with a cinematic and mysterious quality, and characterised by the artist’s masterful attention to colour and light.
