In spring 2016, the photographer journeyed from Tokyo to Matsumoto, Takayama, Kanazawa, Osaka and finally Kyoto. She found Japan to be full of inspiration, ranging from abstract visuals to cultural traditions and the country’s natural world. Dubier-Clark’s explorations are consciously eschewing rigid documentation – instead, she allowed herself to drift through deserted streets with a poetry-inspired gaze.
Her atmospheric images capture the artist’s subjective impressions of Japan: they are evocative snapshots taken by a drifter with a lucidly observant eye. A photo-book of the same title accompanies the exhibition.
