A Polish Fairy Tale

December 17, 2018

The exhibition ‘Un Conte Polonais’ with photographs by Bogdan Konopka will be on display at the Galerie Folia in Paris from 19 December 2018 to 12 January 2019.
The exhibition Un Conte Polonais (A Polish Fairytale) opens at the Galerie Folia in Paris on 18 December 2018, with an evening reception starting at 19.00. The showcase will be on display until 12 January 2019.

Comprising a selection of works spanning four decades of Konopka’s oeuvre, Un Conte Polonais presents a sensitive and deeply personal vision of the Polish-born photographer’s home country. His atmospheric, black-and-white images veer between dream and reality as they tell the story of a country currently embarking on an ambitious course of modernisation.

The photographer, who has been based in France for the past 25 years, was born in the Polish town of Dynów in 1953. Poignant and serene, his portraits of deserted villages, ghostly landscapes and abandoned industrial sites – often shrouded in mist – convey the history and spirit of his original home country, and capture the fragile nature of the world that surrounds us.

A photo book of the same title was published by Éditions Delpire in September 2018, featuring an introduction by Christian Caujolle.
