The exhibition ‘Inszenierte Eleganz. Reportage- und Modefotografie von 1930 bis 1980‘ (Staged elegance. Reportage and Fashion Photography from 1930 to 1980) by Regina Relang, continues on display at the Ludwiggalerie at Schloss Oberhausen until September 18, 2016.

The exhibition spans an arc from early travel reportages in the 1930s and post-war fashion photography, all the way to pictures for glamour magazines such as Die Dame and VOGUE. It presents Relang’s life work, while reflecting the history of German fashion photography over half a century.

Regina Relang (1906–1989) began her photographic career in Paris in the thirties. Her first successes came with the reportage photographs she took during her travels in southern Europe.

During the post-war years, Relang became Germany’s leading, female fashion photographer. She received commissions from renowned fashion designers such as Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin and Yves Saint Laurent, and her pictures were published in fashion journals of the time such as Constanze, Madame, and Film & Frau.
