At a time when colour photography was still rare, Erwitt always took along a second camera loaded with colour film. “Normally, I prefer shooting in black and white for my personal pictures. But now, having extensively examined my past color pictures, I am less dogmatic. In the end, it is only the quality of the pictures that counts,” states Erwitt.
The pictures in the exhibition first appeared in 2013 in the photo book Elliott Erwitt’s Kolor. Beforehand, Elliott and three assistants had spent six months looking through half a million slides – 400 of them made it into the publication.
