Life in Oradea

October 15, 2015

Photographs by Karl-Heinz Rothenberger are showing at the Haus des Deutschen Ostens in Munich from 29 October 2015 to 31 March 2016, in an exhibition titled 'Life in Großwardein – Oradea'.
From 29 October 2015, the Haus des Deutschen Ostens in Munich presents the exhibition 'Life in Großwardein – Oradea', consisting of works by Leica photographer Karl-Heinz Rothenberger. The images, depicting life in the Romanian city of Oradea (German: Großwardein), will be on display until 31 March 2016.

Analogue Black-and-White Photography
In parallel to his work as a medical doctor, Rothenberger has dedicated himself to photography from a young age – eventually directing his focus exclusively on black and white photography. 'Subjectivity Through the Lens' and 'As Seen by the Photographer' are among his earlier project titles. His work exudes the authenticity of a photographic approach that rejects any subsequent manipulation of a captured moment.

An Inquisitive Mind
Rothenberger's gaze is inquisitive yet always empathetic. Scenes of industrial and manual work, the shapes and forms of landscapes, as well as portraits of people's individual character form the basis of what fascinates the doctor and artist in his photographic work.
