The connection between Leica and Monaco dates back to the 1950s, when Edward Quinn immortalised the first meeting between Grace Kelly and Monaco’s Prince Rainier with his Leica IIIf. Grace Kelly herself was, in fact, often seen with a Leica. Since then, both Monaco and Leica have continued to evolve and undergone numerous reinventions.

In September 2022, three photographers travelled to Monaco to capture very different perspectives on the famous principality on the French Riviera: Anastasia Samoylova, an American artist specialising in observational photography; Italian photographer Fulvio Bugani (whose work is rooted in a documentary approach), and German street and architectural photographer, Torsten Andreas Hoffmann. The resulting works are now presented to the public for the first time under the title ‘Hidden Gems – Undiscovered Treasures’.

The exhibition opens at Leica Gallery Frankfurt on March 9, 2023, with a reception starting at 7 p.m. In addition to the represented artists, the evening’s attendees will include S.E. Lorenzo Ravano, Ambassador of Monaco, as well as Guy Antognelli, Director of the Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority.
