As Official Photography Partner of Photokina 2016, Leica will be staging the Masters of Photography exhibition at the world photography trade fair.

Every day up until the opening of the Photokina on September 20, we will be presenting one of the pictures series. Today it is So Long, China, 1982–2015 by Patrick Zachmann.

The French photographer has been travelling all around China for over thirty years – a country he first discovered for himself in 1982, when he was reporting on the Chinese film industry. The picture series documents the changes taking place in China from different perspectives. Zachmann reveals daily life in isolated provinces as much as in the big cities such as Hong Kong, Shanghai and Peking. In 1989 he was an eye witness to the uprising in Tienanmen Square. Since 2001, Zachmann has also been photographing in colour. The main theme in his China series remains the question of identity, which is particularly strong for the younger generation of Chinese.
