Manon (born 1940 in Bern, lives and works in Zurich) is a script writer, set designer, director, actress – and photographer. With her acting roles as femme fatale, provocative performance art and installations, she has always caused a stir within Zurich’s art scene.
Manon’s photographic oeuvre is a celebration of beauty and transience, heralded by ‘La dame au crâne rasé’ of 1977/78 – her first photographic project to gain international acclaim. In this seminal series, the artist embodies an urban angel: with her shaved head, she looks both sexy and androgynous, vulnerable yet simultaneously untouchably cool.
The current exhibition – which was originally scheduled for 2020 in honour of the artist’s 80th birthday, but had to be postponed due to the pandemic – is a tribute to a truly groundbreaking oeuvre. The showcase primarily revolves around Manon’s photographic explorations: spanning from her early series to projects created in recent years, it brings together famous classics with some of the artist’s lesser-known works.
