Magnum Photos have joined forces with LensCulture to celebrate the legendary agency’s 70th anniversary with an international photography competition. The collaboration of these two organisations will offer participants the opportunity to gain unprecedented levels of global exposure and recognition for their work. Submissions for the Magnum Photography Awards 2016 are open until 24 May.

Since 1947, Magnum has served as an important collective of visionary photographers whose iconic, often world-famous images have shaped our perception of the world. LensCulture aims to provide a springboard for emerging photographers, with previous competitions honouring Philipp Engelhorn, Andrés Granollers, Sadegh Souri and Andrea Alfano, a.o.

Entries for the Magnum Photography Awards are accepted in the form of series or single images, and can be submitted in six categories including Documentary, Fine Art and Photojournalism. A jury headed by Magnum President Martin Parr will select twenty finalists and twelve winners. In addition, the contest also comprises seven Jury Prizes and five Newcomer Awards. The winners stand to receive cash prizes from 1000 to 2000 US dollars. Entrants will also have the chance to win opportunities such as participation in the Magnum Online Exhibition.
