Sarah Lee is a London-based photographer whose work has been published in leading magazines such as TIME, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair. She is currently completing her long-term project, West of West, in which she explores the topic of urban America in collaboration with British journalist Laura Barton.
Since 2015, Lee has been among the few photographers officially selected to portray the winners and nominees of the annual British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). As with many of her projects, it is the intimate, semi-private moments amidst this major public event that particularly capture her attention. A selection of these backstage portraits are now presented at the Leica Gallery Los Angeles under the title Behind the Curtain, showing from 23 February to 2 April 2018.
In addition, Lee’s photo series Tender are the Night Hawks will be featured in the upcoming issue of LFI (02/2018).
