The Last Witnesses

June 10, 2021

‘The Lonka Project – A Photographic Tribute to the Last Living Holocaust Survivors’ continues at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin until June 27, 2021.
‘The Lonka Project’ seeks to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust, and mark the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27, 1945. Some 300 leading photographers from 30 countries have portrayed Holocaust survivors in their private surroundings to create this extraordinary exhibition.

Among the contributing photographers are world-renowned artists such as Alec Soth, Gilles Peress, Douglas Kirkland, Steve McCurry, José Giribás, Kristian Schuller, Maurice Weiss and Marissa Roth.

The travelling exhibition opened at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in January 2021, but had to close temporarily due to Covid-19 restrictions. It has now been extended to June 27, and can be viewed either virtually or by prior appointment.
