The Barbican Art Gallery in London presents the exhibition ‘Masculinities: Liberation through Photography’, on show from February 20 to May 17, 2020.
The showcase ‘Masculinities: Liberation through Photography’ is open at London’s Barbican Art Gallery from February 20 to May 17, 2020. The comprehensive group exhibition explores how the visual arts have presented, questioned, encoded and constructed the concept of masculinity from the 1960s to the present day.

More than 300 works by over 50 international photographers, artists and film makers will be on display – including images by acclaimed figures such as Richard Avedon, Peter Hujar, Isaac Julien, Rotimi Fani-Kayode, Robert Mapplethorpe, Annette Messager and Catherine Opie. The selection also features less widely known works by contemporary artists such as Sam Contis, Elle Pérez, Paul Mpagi Sepuya and Hank Willis Thomas, many of which have never been showcased in the UK.
