Shine Ur Eye

On 21 May, the group exhibition Shine Ur Eye opens at the TJ Gallery in London. Comprising the work of Cristina de Middel, Benedicte Kurzen and Robin Maddoc, the show continues until 27 June 2015.

Focus on Nigeria
Opening to coincide with PhotoLondon and created in association with Lagos Photo, Shine Ur Eye is a photographic essay on Nigeria – and a reflection on how everyday life in the West-African country is subtly shaped by a fine line between myth and reality.

The exhibition includes the series Afronauts by Spanish photographer Christina de Middel, revealing Spain's ambitious mission to send the first African astronaut to the moon in 1964. While the endeavour eventually failed, it inspired a photographic series whose use of visual aesthetics leads to an evocative exploration of a country emancipating itself from its colonial past.
