The 18th edition of the international Fotofestiwal Łódź from 13 to 30 June 2019 revolves around the themes of spirituality, community and rituals, as well as metaphysical and supernatural phenomena.
Particular highlights include Henrik Spohler’s project ‘Hypothesis’, which explores how the scientific world researches the depths of space, as well as human, animal and plant life on Earth. In the series ‘Echoes Shades’, Piotr Zbierski illuminates how different cultures use ceremonies and rituals to build a bridge between their material reality and spiritual beliefs. The group exhibition ‘Rooms’ seeks to emphasise the capacity of art to convey intangible aspects of reality – not only in terms of symbolism, but also through the physical manifestation of invisible elements, for example with the aid of darkroom techniques.
Finalists for the Grand Prix 2019 include mainly women photographers such as Hayley Austin, Anastasia Mityukova, Anaïs López and Gloria Oyarzabal.
