Born 1971 in Augsburg, Julia Baier studied Psychology, French and Graphic Design with a focus on photography. She now lives and works in Berlin as a freelance photographer.
The recipient of various German awards, she has also gained international recognition. In 2004, Baier was put forward for the renowned World Press Masterclass. One year before, she competed in the final round of the Leica Oscar Barnack Award. Most recently, excerpts from her series Water Matters were featured in M Magazin No. 3. The series represents a homage to the element of water – a subject she frequently revisits in her work. Among the hallmarks of Baier’s photography is her ability to perceive extraordinary details within everyday life – be it the reflection of the sky in a puddle or abstract shapes in an urban space.
This attention to the remarkable within the ordinary will be at the heart of Julia Baier’s upcoming Artist Talk, held on the LFI premises (Springeltwiete 4, 20095 Hamburg) on 28 January. The event starts at 19.00 and is open to the public. On 30 and 31 January, Julia Baier will address the same theme in a workshop which will also be held at the LFI premises.
