From July 30 to October 15, 2017, the Museum für Druckkunst in Leipzig is presenting Edle Papiere aus Gmund – Eine Papierfabrik stellt sich vor (Classy paper from Gmund – a paper factory introduces itself), an exhibition by Leica photographer Karl-Heinz Rothenberger. The vernissage will take place on July 28 at 18:00.

Over 50 analogue photos by Karl-Heinz Rothenberger illustrate the production process at the traditional, hand-made paper factory in Gmund am Tegernsee, Bavaria. With precisely composed pictures, Rothenberger’s monochrome images draw the viewer’s eye to the essential. Samples from the current production of Gmund papers complement the display, revealing the visual and haptic diversity of materials.

Prof. Dr. Rothenberger (born 1945) studied Medicine in Munich and Zurich, and then worked as a chief physician. He discovered a passion for photography already back in the sixties, and since then has presented his work in numerous exhibitions and publications. On the one hand, his images deal with handicraft and industrial motifs, on the other, people are always in focus as well. All the prints of the twice award-winner of the Bavarian Journalist Award for the best press photo, are produced by hand in his own laboratory.
