Leica ZM 1 and ZM 2: The Monochrom Edition

April 27, 2023

Inspired by the M11 Monochrom, Leica expands its successful watch line-up with two all-black variants. The new timepieces will be available from the end of May.
The distinctive design of Leica’s ZM Monochrom Edition dispenses with silver tones and colour – aside from the classic red Leica dot – to achieve a truly minimalist aesthetic. The black diamond-cut indices and hands are sandblasted and rhodium-plated, and are protected by a domed, anti-reflective sapphire glass. The dial, including its feet, is milled from a solid block of high-strength aluminium for increased shock-resistance. This is complemented by the black watch strap made of thick, full-grain calfskin leather, which echoes the surface structure of the M11 Monochrom’s camera trim. The cut edges of the watch strap are finished with hand-stitched seams, perfectly emphasising the combination of solidity and refinement that distinguishes the Leica ZM Monochrom Edition.

As is characteristic for Leica’s high-end timepieces, the new edition consists of two marginally different models. Both feature the manual-wind mechanical watch movement (developed and produced in-house) as well as Leica’s patented push crown. With their discreet appearance and simple operation, the watch models harmoniously blend into the world of Leica and its meticulously thought-out yet understated design aesthetic.
The watches’ patented push crown stops the movement, sets the second hand to zero, and allows the time to be set. The Leica ZM 2 offers an additional GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) function, which allows the wearer to read two different timezones simultaneously.

The Leica ZM Monochrom Edition will be available from the end of May in selected Leica Stores worldwide – including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Portugal and Spain, as well as the UK, USA, China, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Australia. The recommended retail price starts at EUR 11,550 for the Leica ZM 1 Monochrom, and EUR 15,450 for the Leica ZM 2 Monochrom (both incl. VAT).
