The classic lens is now also available for the Leica SL.
The Leica Summilux-SL 50 mm f/1.4 Asph is the first prime lens in the SL system’s portfolio. The extremely fast high-performance lens is ideal for photographing in natural light, and offers the creative advantages of a shallow depth of field. Thanks to the outstanding precision of the autofocus, the photographer is left free to fully concentrate on the subject and image composition even in challenging conditions. Particularly at maximum aperture, the lens’s high resolution and soft bokeh in out-of-focus areas enables a clear isolation of the subject from its surroundings.

A special feature of its construction is the motorised focusing system. In contrast to manually focused prime lenses, whose exterior length usually varies during focusing, the Leica Summilux-SL 50 mm f/1.4 Asph is equipped with internal focusing. To ensure high imaging performance across the entire focusing range, this group has been elaborately constructed with an aspherical element, yet remains light enough to facilitate fast automatic focusing.

The optical design consists of a total of 11 lenses, including two aspherical elements and four lenses made of glass types with anomalous partial dispersion for the correction of chromatic aberrations. This complex optical construction reduces all monochromatic as well as chromatic aberrations to a barely perceptible minimum. Advanced multi-layer coating on all lens surfaces, an optimal design of the lens tubes, and the rectangular lens hood provided with the lens significantly reduce reflections and stray light.
