Leica M-P Safari

March 8, 2015

Leica have released the new special edition M-P Safari with Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 Asph.
Leica introduce a new special edition of the M-P, this time in an olive-green Safari look. Limited to 1500 units worldwide, the set comprises the M-P Safari, a silver-chrome Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 Asph, a Cognac-coloured carrying strap made of full-grain cowhide leather and a matching SD card holder. Leica's previous Safari editions of the R3 (released in 1977/78) and the M8.2 (2009) are now sought-after collectables. Olive-green Leicas originally date back to the 1960s, when the company produced various special edition models for military applications.

The top plate of the M-P Safari is finished in a resilient, olive-green enamel specifically designed to offer a comfortable grip and tactile handling. This is complemented by the camera's leather trim of the same colour. A striking contrast is achieved with the silver-chrome control elements, which in turn correspond to the identically finished lens with its classic round lens hood.

The top plate features the classic Leica script in reminiscence of previous Safari models, along with engravings of 'Leica Camera AG' and 'Wetzlar Germany'. Exterior design details aside, both camera and lens are equivalent to their serial counterparts in terms of all technical specifications.
