International Photography in Kyoto

Share:

This year’s Kyotographie photo festival encompasses 15 main presentations, along with a programme of events set in 19 locations across the city. The 2023 edition of the festival, which continues until May 14, 2023, revolves around the theme of ‘Borders’.

Borders – in their broadest sense – are an integral part of our existence: they provide frameworks for our experiences, and serve as points of reference and distinction; at the same time, they can become limiting, or even destructive lines of separation. Our human instinct is to constantly evolve – to push boundaries, cross borders, forge new ground. This innate desire to (on the one hand) establish, and (on the other hand) transcend boundaries is a powerful force of human nature.

The 2023 edition of Kyotographie goes in search of borders in all their manifestations – be they real or imagined, solid or transient, physical or internal.

In addition to the 15 main exhibitions – featuring works by Joana Choumali, Boris Mikhailov, Dennis Morris, Gak Yamada and Yuriko Takagi, among others – this year’s festival also offers a rich programme of events, including portfolio reviews, artist talks, gallery tours, and much more.
