in Mexico in 2018, ‘La Cucaracha’ is the South-African photographer’s most recent body of work. The showcase continues at Priska Pasquer until November 23, 2019.
‘La Cucaracha’ depicts people and situations the photographer encountered whilst exploring different parts of Mexico – from the industrialised zone of Mexico City to the desert of Hermosillo and the mountainous regions of Ixtepec and San Cristóbal. The resulting portraits and still lifes epitomise the traveller’s open eye for the typical as well as the unexpected. Powerful colours, opulent vegetation and an overt visibility of death and impermanence that is unfamiliar to European eyes all emanate from the breathtakingly intense images in this body of work.
