Beyond Hollywood

The Bene Taschen Gallery in Cologne presents the third solo exhibition of American artist Gregory Bojorquez. Frame Life opens with an evening reception on 3 June, and can be viewed from 7 June to 29 July 2017.

Bojorquez (born 1972) grew up in East Los Angeles, where he still lives and works today. His career and subsequent passion first started when he began to take pictures of his friends and his own neighbourhood. Bojorquez’s photographs capture the opposing cultures of his hometown, where the glamour of Hollywood is juxtaposed with the backstreets of L.A.

The images featured in this exhibition span the past 20 years. All monochrome and colour photographs were taken exclusively with analogue equipment.

Frame Life consolidates two worlds that could hardly be more different, with Bojorquez’s images of East Los Angeles posing a stark contrast to the opulent world of Hollywood.
