The exhibition, which was realised in collaboration with the Argus Fotokunst Gallery in Berlin, encompasses a selection of around 100 works from the years of 1955–1986. Will McBride’s pioneering style of idiosyncratic photojournalism had a profound influence on the next generation of photography artists.
Few others have captured the atmosphere the 1960s, a period between post-war reconstruction and social revolution, so dynamically and with such artistic freedom. Berlin was especially fascinating to the young photographer. Here he created very spontaneous, highly condensed visual narratives, marked by great dynamism and proximity. Beyond the melancholy and severity of the harsh post-war reality, his positive and hopeful perspective made him the perfect chronicler of a young generation experiencing new-found liberties and ways of life.
