Landscapes and Architecture

November 20, 2014

The Zander Gallery in Cologne combines images by photographer Robert Adams with the work of architect Rudolf Schwarz. Open from 22 November 2014 to 14 February 2015.
From 22 November, the Thomas Zander Gallery in Cologne presents an exhibition by American photographer Robert Adams (born 1937) along with the work of German architect Rudolf Schwarz (1897–1961), one of the most important church builders of the 20th century.

Architecture and Landscape
Visitors will gain an insight into Robert Adams' early work, starting from 1964, with a particular focus on American landscapes and architecture. At the same time, the gallery illustrates the architectural oeuvre of Rudolf Schwarz in the form of archive material, photographs and drawings.

Source of Inspiration
The link between Adam and Schwarz goes back to the photographer's first and only trip to Europe with the specific purpose of viewing modern architecture, and particularly the churches of Rudolf Schwarz. The experience inspired Adams and contributed to his decision to become a photographer.
