Jürgen Schadeberg (1931-2020) was born ninety years ago today. We pay tribute to the Leica photographer, who was inaugurated into the Leica Hall of Fame in 2018.
Schadeberg went down in history as a courageous, passionate photojournalist who captured the world from a humanist perspective. As well as working in Germany and across Europe, he was especially drawn to South Africa – which continued to be at the centre of his seven-decade long career.
Leica Gallery Madrid currently presents the late photographer’s exhibition ‘El Ojo Compasivo’, continuing until April 8, 2021.

LFI Magazine has published portfolios of Jürgen Schadeberg’s work in issue 7/2014 and issue 1/2019
