From May 7 to August 26, 2022, the Fine Art Gallery in Traismauer, Austria, presents works by Belgian photographer John Vink. The exhibition gives insight into rural life in Cambodia, explores the management of water resources in the Sahel, and highlights the plight of undocumented immigrants trying to make a living in Belgium.
John Vink (born 1948) joined Agence Vu’ in Paris in 1986. In the same year, he won the Eugene Smith Award for his project ‘Water in the Sahel’ – a comprehensive reportage on water management in the Sahel region. Between 1987 and 1993, he created an extensive body of work about refugees around the world; his book ‘Réfugiés’ was published in 1994. In 1997, Vink became a full member of Magnum Photos. However, he eventually resigned and left the agency in June 2017. The photographer, who is a member of MAPS, has lived in Brussels since 2016.
