Ali Taptık’s project 5 Dried Flowers, 7 Confusing Incidents, and 9 Intimate Strangers opened at the Leica Gallery Istanbul on 6 December, and will be on display until 16 February 2019. The series, whose title was written in the style of a Haiku poem, forms a collection of visual short stories drawn from works created over the past 16 years. Taptık consciously presents us with a medley of visual and linguistic art – challenging the viewer to effectively translate his images.
The Turkish artist (b. 1983) has gained considerable attention with his innovative approach to contemporary photography. His work has previously been shown as part of the Istanbul Biennial, as well as the Venice Biennial for Architecture. In his experiments involving display panels, websites and photo books, Taptık continues to push the boundaries of the photographic medium.
