The Independent Photographer is an online magazine whose frequent photo competitions are designed to celebrate the medium’s many different facets. In March, the organisers were looking for the best images in the genre of street photography. The jury, headed by acclaimed NYC-based street photographer Richard Sandler (Leica Classic, LFI 3/2017), has now chosen three winning images and seven finalists.

Alain Schroeder wins first place for his evocative image ‘Dreamland’, recorded in Varanasi, India. The second prize goes to Daniel Ramos, who captured the harmonious chaos of Mexico City. In third place is LFI.Gallery photographer Jonathan Jasberg with ‘Shelter from the Storm’: the photograph, which was taken in Kolkata, India, was previously selected as the LFI.Gallery’s Picture of the Week.
