Fresh talents on the Côte d’Azur

April 24, 2019

Every spring, the Southern-French town of Hyères celebrates emerging talents in the fields of fashion and photography: An expert jury will determine the Grand Prix of Photography winner from a shortlist of ten finalists.
The 34th edition of the International Festival for Fashion, Photography and Fashion Accessories takes place at the Villa Noailles in Hyères from 25 April to 26 May 2019. Since 1997, the event – which was initially designed as a festival for young fashion designers – also features a prestigious award for emerging photographers.

The jury includes last year’s Grand Prix of Photography winner, American artist Eva O'Leary; it is presided over by British fashion photographer Craig McDean, who is also represented with a festival exhibition. Further jury members include American model and make-up artist Guinevere Van Seenus, as well as Marc Ascoli, creative director at AnOther Magazine.

Some 700 entries were submitted for this year’s competition by photographers from more than 50 countries. In January, the jury compiled a shortlist of ten favourites: Federico Berardi, Hubert Crabieres, Kerry J. Dean, Tommy Kha, Hilla Kurki, Vincent Levrat, Alice Mann, Andrew Nuding, Jean-Vincent Simonet, and Elsa & Johanna have been named as this edition’s finalists; each in their own way, they are distinguished by a fresh approach to the photographic medium. All shortlisted works are presented in a group exhibition for the duration of the festival.
